Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen Web series Review: If you have watched Siddharth Sengupta’s ‘Undekhi’ for Applause Entertainment then you know he is most comfortable in the world of ‘unorganised’ crime. Self-appointed ganglords and their utterly ruthless offspring, run by rudderless goons who think they can get away with murder, literally, make Sengupta’s blood boil.

Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen Web Series Review
‘Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein’ (named after a hit song from the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘Baazigar’ for no particular reason) has an undercurrent of simmering spleen, a growing resentment of those with money and power being powerless. This is a series about the abuse of the power of money, about ruthless gangsters forcing their will on the helpless: a favourite theme in our cinema for years.
But wait. Here’s the twist in the tale. The bullying VC, played with impeccable pitch-perfection by Saurabh Shukla, has a lovely daughter and she has been in love with the poor little pretty boy since school. Poorva, played by the lovely Anchal Singh, is no walkover. Nor is she the old-fashioned vampy Bindu who slurps and slobbers over every object of her desire. She’s a moneyed classy girl who wants a hick with…no matter what.
Web Series Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen Review
The writing is recklessly pulpy and the twists in the plot, especially from the midpoint, are mind-numbing in their absurdity. To his credit screenwriter Siddharth Sengupta maintains the plodding pace till the end. The frenetic pace that is often staged with goons chasing the death of law abiding God fearing citizens never subsides.
Seen in the spirit of Sidney Sheldon’s fiction-in-motion. Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen Web Series Review 2022 ‘Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen’ is a solid entertainer. It is set in a town by the Ganges called Omkara (a stand-in for Varanasi or Allahabad). The final two episodes which turn dark and murderous are shot in Ladakh with a change of scenes serving a specific function.
I didn’t notice any compromise in the production values as the screen size has gotten smaller. The series has an appealing look and a lively feel.
The entire cast from Tahir Raj Bhasin (so funny in his Mahesh Bhatt avatar in this week’s other series ‘Ranjish Hi Sahi’) and Shweta Tiwari, playing the simple-minded couple whose togetherness is cut short by the murderous machinations of the rich bitch (I tell you) to the typecast Brijendra Kala (as Bhasin’s arrogant overbearing father) and Surya Sharma as Poorva’s borderline psychotic brother (a repeat of a role played by this talented actor in an almost overlooked film by the same director) all do well for themselves.
Web Series Review of Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen
But the real catch of the serial is Anchal Singh as the unresponsive lover girl. She plays the role in dignified tones that lend Poorva a kind of grace she perhaps doesn’t deserve. Also look out for Anant Joshi as Vikrant’s best friend. He is comic relief and a welcome change. And Poorva’s rapper-suitor, played by Nikhil Pandey, is a hoot.
Review: Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen (web series)
I wish the story wasn’t so eager to carry the audience along. At times, there is a sort of desperate breathlessness in the storytelling. But that’s okay. Better than 10 episodes of boring fatigue we’ve been subjected to in some recent serials.
